Where did your interest in tech come from?
My interest in tech primarily came from my father, an IT professional for over 35 years; so I’ve grown up surrounded by tech. I was interested in not just “what things do”, but “how they work” in the background which in turn lead me to me to read around coding simple applications & websites. I first came across Cloud Technology via Dropbox as I sought an alternative to traditional Floppy Disks & “modern” USB’s. This eventually lead me to AWS S3 and then onto other AWS services. My working background has been primarily based in Hospitality and even Factory Laundry work; so I guess my background is not the typical “IT/Tech professional” – just somebody with a keen interest and desire to learn!
What made you apply for the AWS training?
Simply to follow my interest, learn/practice more in the process and help facilitate a career switch into the field. I’ve never really had the confidence to step outside my “comfort zone” of Hospitality despite being unhappy with the job, but I’m a firm believer that once you’ve found something which you’re genuinely passionate about and want to pursue; then you need to grab the bull by the horns and just go for it and this is the main reason why I applied for the AWS training.
What did you enjoy about the course?
I enjoyed learning more in depth into AWS Services and how they are used within the infrastructure of big corporations such as Netflix, Vodafone, Sky, Under Armour to name just a few. Alongside this I’ve also really enjoyed learning about DevOps tools as well as other general tech skills (Linux, Powershell, Python etc), to further broaden my knowledge.
I enjoyed the fact that everybody’s journey is different and each person offered new knowledge and insight – whether this be an IT/Tech Veteran, or a newbie like myself.
How do you think it has set you up for the future?
Provided a solid understanding of Cloud in general and AWS Services specifically, in turn leading to industry recognised qualifications and ultimately a fantastic job opportunity within Mobilise. Whilst studying has helped enormously, it is the commercial experience gained through my position at Mobilise which has really helped the most – by really putting into context the theoretically knowledge gained through study. Mobilise have provided a great graduate platform which actively encourages continuous learning and continuous development, which has set me up for a great future.

Where did your interest in tech come from?
My background hasn’t always been tech. I started off as a mechanic and car body repairer, with my father, I then moved into the financial industry, working at a Credit Union. Neither of these careers really fit my passion, which has always been tech.
During my school year’s, I used to come home and take my phones and computers apart, just to see how they worked, which quickly turned into an underground school business fixing iPhones.
Seeing how beneficial cloud computing is for businesses, how efficient and secure it is compared to traditional computing is inspiring and I wanted to be a part of it.
What made you apply for the AWS training?
A big part of why I applied to join an AWS academy was due to the flexibility to learn and work at the same time, to be able to plan out my studies how I saw fit and to follow my passion and interests.
Secondly, I saw how big the community was in the AWS/cloud computing industry and how supportive everyone is, when you’re jumping into the unknown you need that feeling of reassurance that there are likeminded people to support you through your journey.
Finally, the ability to not only learn the theory and attain certifications, but, the opportunity to practice in a real environment using the AWS free tier.
What did you enjoy about the course?
I enjoyed the fact that the course isn’t for just those who have years of background in IT, you can come into it with no previous experience, bringing passion and determination to achieve certifications and knowledge, to start your career on a great base. It was nice that you could meet new people who are on the same path as you, become friends, colleagues and learning buddies who can support each other on your new journey.
I enjoyed using real technologies in the AWS console, building out my own infrastructure and applications.
Ultimately how cloud computing can really enhance a business’s processes and infrastructure, lowering costs, increasing security and how agile and elastic the cloud really is.
How do you think it has set you up for the future?
The AWS academy and its course provides a base understanding of what the cloud is and the core AWS services you need to know to achieve recognised certifications that will make you stand out to employers. By doing this I accepted a job offer here at mobilise who are a super supportive business and keen for individuals to progress.
There is nothing more important than the ability to gain commercial experience in a supportive company to put your knowledge into practice, whilst watching your passion grow every day. With all of this in mind Mobilise and the academy have made it feel like there’s no better place, or time, to watch my future and achievements grow.

Where did your interest in tech come from?
I’ve been fortunate to have grown up with gadgets surrounding me from the off, which has nurtured an aptitude to all things tech. From Nintendo 64 consoles to DJI Inspires, I enjoy figuring out how tech functions as well as all the fun stuff! This has further developed by working for Apple in various roles and now with Mobilise as a DevOps engineer.
What made you apply for the AWS training?
Aside from the obvious financial incentives I enjoy being challenged and achieving these certs and relevant skills seemed the obvious next step, especially after speaking with some professionals in the AWS field as they provided valuable advice and insight.
What did you enjoy about the course?
I enjoyed learning about the core features of what makes up a cloud platform and how AWS put their spin on them as well as other proprietary services.
How do you think it has set you up for the future?
Obtaining AWS certs and consequently a job with Mobilise has transformed my life in the present let alone the future. The current climate sees huge demand for these skills and therefore opportunity for progression, partner this with AWS being the industry leading cloud provider it’s unlikely this will slow down anytime soon.
